The donated umbilical cord is carefully screened for infectious agents and medical history. According to the American Laboratory of Stem Cells, umbilical cord stem cells in activity, migration and differentiation are significantly superior to other mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) obtained from bone marrow, fat and other sources. They also have numerous anti-inflammatory effects, migrating to sites of injury and disease.
