FSB wants to ban Skype, and Gmail ?

This was stated by deputy head of the Scientific and Technical Services – Head of Information Security Center and the special connection of the FSB, Alexander Andreechkin.
“In recent years the problem of using a network of general use of cryptographic encryption – especially foreign-made – a growing concern of the FSB. Subject to various software tools to encrypt traffic. As explained by the results of his deputy chief of the Ministry of Communications Ilya Massukh, FSB proposed ban in Russia, the use of these services, explaining that the use of encryption systems are difficult to implement operational activities.
“For example, to access Gmail from law enforcement agencies are not regulated,” – said Massukh.
However, after a stormy discussion, it was decided to establish an interagency working group, which by the first of October to make proposals to the Government to settle the question of use of cryptographic means of public communication networks.
In this Massukh expressed confidence that the prohibition to the use of these services will not come. “Citizens restrict some technical way, we probably will not,” – said the official. “The position of the Ministry of Communications is that citizens do not prohibit, especially the Internet. You can offer some encryption, but they should be free” – added Massukh.
He also said that the working group will consist of representatives of state authorities. Of the operators may participate only “Rostelecom”.
