Stem Cell-Induced Vascularization: A Novel Approach in Heart Regeneration

Heart failure, a debilitating condition characterized by impaired heart function, remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Conventional treatment options, including medications and surgical interventions, provide limited benefits and fail to address the underlying cause of heart failure: loss of cardiomyocytes and impaired vascularization. Several strategies are being explored to improve the translational potential of stem cell-based vascularization, including the use of biomaterials to enhance cell delivery and the development of gene editing techniques to modify stem cells for optimal vascularization.
